The New Yorker Cartoon

1) Why be petty over dirt? What kind of dirt is being imported? Why is there just 3 people in a cave? How is this dirt imported? 2) Why is the dirt causing such pettiness around? 3) Why is it funny ? This cartoon is funny because it shows two Stone Age females and one male in a cave. The one female on the right side has her arms crossed starring at the male one with his arms crossed while the other female one the left is just standing side by side with the male. It seems to me that the “dirt” is meaning that the the women of her arms crossed has something with the male and she looks jealous thinking the male and the other female were up to something. The male looks like he’s trying to resolve that situation. The female that looks petty seems like she doesn’t wanna share a cave with another female there also. However the women on the left side looks like she was just trying to be sheltered. Seems to me this cartoon was trying to explain how women can be jealous with what belongs to them since the beginning of time.
